Hessonite is grossular garnet, a species that ranges from colorless and
rare pinks to the wonderful greens of tsavorite, mint garnet, and the
yellow, red-orange, orange and brown-orange Hessonite variety.
The occasional brown overcast led to the traditional name "cinnamon
stone" although some Hessonites can be very gemmy and expensive.
While prone to inclusions Hessonite can be an attractive alternative to
more expensive stones. This 6.7 mm. round is not quite eye clean
but faces brightly. The stone is more brown than shown in the
image.
